About
Please enter some profile information about yourself to join so we know you're bonafide! This service is free, but potentially at some point there may be a cost and we may need to ask for fees/donations at that point. MOJO is group focused on in person, participatory jamming events for musicians in Ottawa/Gatineau area. Emphasis is on playing together and sharing your music passion with others. MOJO was founded in 2010 and we have had over 1400 events in this time. Membership has now grown to over 1600 members. Out of this over 500 people have attended at least one event. We have several different event hosts who plan events. Each host is free to plan an event as they wish. Such things as group size, time/location, instrumentation, objective, skill level, jam style etc. may vary. This is unlike some other organizations where a central administration plans all events. All members are also invited to plan events as they would like. Perhaps to focus on a certain musical genre, theme, instrument, skill level, learning, songwriting etc. Contact MOJO administration for assistance in this. MOJO is designed for individuals who share and interest in playing music. This includes any style of acoustic instrument (guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, harmonica, ukulele, bass, etc...) and at least basic fundamental knowledge of chords (C F G D E, Am Em Dm, etc ). Our objective is to create an environment where people can jam in a relaxed way. Playing along with others is a great way to have fun and learn new skills and song. We meet often in private homes, pubs or other venues throughout the city. We have several weekly events, and also welcome other events planned ad-hoc by members when and where they wish. We have a large membership living all over the region, so events can be planned in any part of the area. Typically events are in standard jam style, however such musical things as open stages, performances, sing-alongs etc are also welcome. Singers, some events may allow for sing-along, others are not suitable. If in doubt contact the event host to confirm. If you wish to plan an event, give some consideration prepare a good description such that people can choose events suited to them. Aspects to consider are: number of people, instruments, circle jam vs other style, solos, paper tab/no tab/projector and lots more. This group operates through 'Heylo.com' (commercial company) and so we may need to cover fees (if any) for this. At times participants may be offered the opportunity to make voluntary donations. The objective is to just cover the costs of these fees, and not make any profit beyond that. May we all become better musicians, one note at a time. Welcome and enjoy! 🎤🎵 🎧 PS: Once you join you may find additional information listed here, see the index button. https://sites.google.com/view/mojobackupwebsite NOTE: this group is intended for musicians making music, generally not intended for those wishing to just listen. Other groups may suit you better. --------------------------------------------------------------- This is a not a business and is not for profit. We simply cover costs, if any, such as fees to run this website/app for the service they provide. Events are run by volunteers, not paid. Members are not accepted for commercial purposes and advertisements are not accepted. Membership is limited to local people, focus is on in-person events, and we do not accept worldwide members looking for online jamming. Unless otherwise specified events are expected to be for members to collaborate and generally not just be an audience. Respect the RSVP system, limits are intentional both to ensure a good musical experience and also based on space availability. If your plans change update your RSVP so someone else can have your place. Generally members are expected to play an instrument. Safety: - consider that members are from the general public and you should take any precautions wish to feel safe - you are responsible for your own safety - do not send unsolicited messages to people you have not met
