We are Off The Record — an ideas speakeasy and neighbourhood salon in Norwich where curious people come together for open, honest conversation. Our events are discussion-led (not lectures): guest speakers spark the conversation, but everyone participates. Expect spirited debates on topics from democracy, education and AI to privacy, ethics and culture, plus informal socials in local pubs and historic venues. 🐦🔥💬
Our culture is warm, welcoming and independent. We stand for critical thinking, freedom of speech, no-judgement dialogue and authenticity — donations are voluntary so we can stay free from formal affiliations. Whether you’re after a deep intellectual dive, a practical how-to, or just friendly company and good conversation, our sessions and socials are designed to be inclusive, thought‑provoking and rooted in the Norwich community. 🌿Libertas Dicendi🌿
Off The Record is open to adults aged 18+ who are interested in thoughtful, honest, in-depth conversation. We are here to learn, question, explore, discuss and debate.
People from all backgrounds and viewpoints are welcome. You do not need to have a particular political position, profession, education level, or prior knowledge to take part — only a willingness to listen, think, question, and engage respectfully.
Members are expected to:
- take part in good faith;
- allow debates and disagreement without personal hostility;
- avoid intimidation, harassment, or deliberately disruptive behaviour;
- respect that others may see things differently;
- be comfortable with open discussion, including complex or sensitive topics.
- OTR is not about enforcing agreement. It is about creating a space where people can question, debate, learn, and speak more freely than they often can elsewhere.
If you are under 18, please message before joining or attending, as some discussions may involve adult, political, legal, social, or sensitive themes.
