PDX OSR is, simply, a community of folks in the Portland, OR area that enjoy playing and discussing OSR/NSR Table Top Role Playing Games (as well as many others) and wanted a focused environment outside of other areas that are dominated by mainstream modern RPGs.
What is OSR? An early 2000's online movement often referred to as either the Old School Revival or Renaissance - the R is often debated, and not too important to fuss about. As the OSR has aged, many new movements and systems in RPG "theory" have sprung up that sometimes eschew the trappings of Old School while being inspired by it to a degree - this would be the New School... R, which is even more loosely defined than the OSR.
Labels aren't too important, but it's helpful to loosely define expectations - PDX OSR is a community where folks are interested in discussing and playing systems *other* than (without derision) mainstream RPGs like D&D 5e, Pathfinder, etc. The simple fact of the matter is that the internet is rife with locations to discuss these large metacultural groupings and PDX OSR is a place/group to play and discuss other great games without having to constantly weigh and compare against industry standard!
We are loosely run and operate with the sole purpose of helping folks find/play more niche games in the Portland area that are harder to gather a crowd for - users of our group or Discord server are encouraged to host and play new games and meet new friends using whatever tools they find useful. We use SESH freely on the Discord with low overhead or you can use this Heylo group to post more public facing events.
Bring a positive attitude and some dice and you'll be sure to fit in.
Please feel free to join our Discord group if you're seeking to play or run games! Heads up that this invite grants temporary status (so that we don't get inundated with lurkers/bots) and that to not get auto-removed you will need to assign yourself a role which can be done easily in the Roles-Self-Assignment channel. Roles are used to advertise games to interested parties, e.g., AD&D and OSE are different "roles" to help you find players interested in particular games.

PDX OSR is inclusive - We expect all participants to behave with common courtesy and respect towards other individuals as well as the establishments generously allowing us space to run games.
Harassment with regard to gender, sexual orientation, dress, age, race, religion or lack thereof, political affiliation, disability, or involvement or noninvolvement in any group is not allowed.
Do not use the group to solicit sales or commissions. This will result in a ban.
