đď¸ This is a members-only event. Not an RCA member yet? You can sign up at https://rivianclubs.org/membership/
đ¨ď¸ We're planning this for November 14 and hoping to get it in before the snow hits, but who knows this year. If the weather turns, we'll have to cancel, so keep an eye on the event page for updates.
Difficulty (5/10)
This is a more advanced trail. Most of it isn't too difficult (2/10), but there are a few washed-out sections and large rocks that need careful line choice. It can be slippery in places (large boulders with gravel/dirt), with some off-camber spots. It's NOT a good first off-roading trip. If you want to come but don't have much experience, try to find someone to ride with.
â ď¸ High probability of hitting rock sliders or underbody in an R1 in high (Ben and Todd both did on the prerun)
đŤ R2 should not attempt this
Meetup
Take Highway 50 to 42 Milestone Tract exit just west of Strawberry. You'll cross a small one-lane bridge and as you turn right there's a dirt pull-out that should be large enough for several Rivians. We'll meet there at 9am, air down, then head up to the trailhead just around the corner.
The plan
The trail is about 9 miles and takes about 3 hours. We'll head up to the top of the pass and stop for lunch around noon, overlooking the valley to the south with Caples Lake and Kirkwood in view. After lunch we'll continue down the last part of the trail and end up on Highway 88.
Expect to use 15-20% SOC for the trail. I made it back to Placerville RAN using about 10%. Can make it to Meyers similarly if you are heading that way.
â˘
close-toed shoes (we'll likely be spotting each other)
â˘
at least 40% SOC just to be safe
