Asia Trail Girls Beginner Run - THOUSAND ISLANDS πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ Start: 8:30am from in front of Wellcome at 48 Castle Peak Road, Sham Tseng, New Territories Distance: 12km Elevation: 470m Route:
https://www.strava.com/routes/3540605445389311444
Estimated Duration: 2.5 to 3 hours. Let's explore a part of the New Territories that we haven't been for a while, which has no major peaks, just two small climbs to 250m. It takes in the beautiful views of the "thousand islands" over Tai Lam Chung reservoir. We will start from in front of Wellcome in Sham Tseng (there is a public toilet nearby for anyone in need) at 48 Castle Peak Road. Most of us will find it most convenient to take a taxi or bus there from Tsuen Wan MTR station (exit A, KMB bus 234A/234B or 53, or green minibus 96M) which takes 15-20mins. From there we will climb a concrete path until we reach the Yuen Tsuen Ancient Trail, which is a lovely runnable forest trail, ending in a stair descent to near the reservoir. From there we will join the Maclehose Trail section 10, which is mostly an undulating concrete path, which passes through the "sweet gum woods" - if the leaves have turned red already we might need to dodge a lot of hikers/social media influencers here! We then climb up to the viewpoint over the "thousand islands". After descending to the catchwater, we leave the Maclehose Trail to continue descending to our finish at So Kwun Wat Tsuen, where there is a public toilet and a minibus (#43 to Tuen Mun via Gold Coast). There is also an option to run/walk about 2km to the main road (Castle Peak Road, near Gold Coast) where lots of transport options are available. Important Notes: There is no water refill option on this route - we would recommend bringing at least 1.5L with you Pace and Group Style: 1). This is a beginner social run, so all levels of runners are welcome. This event is ideal for road runners wanting to try their first trail run, or experienced hikers wanting to add some running to their trails, but maybe not those who neither hike or run regularly. 2). The aim of the beginner run is to stick together - we will have regular walking breaks to allow people to catch up and catch their breath. 3). Regular breaks will be taken at the top of climbs and major junctions for group photos, and chats. 4). No one gets left behind - there will always be an ATG leader at the back. We are raising funds to support Exchange and Empower’s trail running and hiking programs for foreign domestic helpers in Hong Kong. Donations are optional and the amount is completely up to you but if you choose to contribute, we suggest at least HK$20 per event. If you’d like to pay in advance, here’s the info: FPS ID: 110513660 Payme:
