About
A 22km Saturday loop around the watery Cheshunt area.
Meet: Starting from Cheshunt overground station, and finishing back here.
Distance: 22km / 13.7miles
Time: 3 hours, possibly a little more depending on amount of stops
We'll take in a loop of the Cheshunt Lee Valley sights, particularly tracks along the reservoir, the Lee Navigation (though not too much as this can get boring), farmy forest bits of Rusheymead and Lower Nazeing (the one hill), wiggly flood relief channels, tranquility and biodiversity of Cornmill Meadows, into and past Waltham Abbey (small bit of busy road), then back on the Lee Navigation (past White Water centre) to Cheshunt. So it should be a good mix!!
Majority of the terrain is going to be towpath tracks or sandy gravelled tracks. It will therefore feel more road-y! Except there's loads of greenery and it's pretty quiet out that way.
This will be a chatty pace, probably 7.30min/km or even slower overall. We'll take time to stop for some replenishment, for photos, for toilets (which I think may only be wild ones).
If you don't fancy running the whole thing, or you're unsure if you can manage it, you can peel off. However, travel up here is a little less easy so bear that in mind; there's Broxbourne, but that's around 6km in then Waltham Cross, but that's close to the end. I can send you the route so you can check (I don't post them publicly).
Please dress appropriately for the weather, particularly if you've got a long journey. Along with snacks and water - these will be limited in this area.
Road shoes will probably do you fine as it shouldn't be muddy, but trail are always good for grip on gravelled tracks.
Car park on the other side of the station to where we'd meet, and I'm pretty sure there'll be bike racks somewhere!
