About
🌿 WALK: EAST LOTHIAN – Yester Castle and the Goblin Ha Led by: Morag Distance: 7.5km (there and back) Meeting point: The Square, Gifford Pace: Gentle + inclusive – no one left behind
Come with us to literally blow away the cobwebs, on Halloween at one of the most haunted ruined castles in Scotland! Hugo de Gifford built Yester Castle in the 1200s and was said to be a necromancer wizard who made a pact with the devil and summoned an army of hobgoblins to build this massive chamber as a space for him to practice his dark magical arts... Hopefully, the only thing we will summon is nice autumnal weather!
The walk will start at The Square in the village of Gifford and wander through through Yester Estate which consists of varied woodland in a Tolkienesque forest landscape with a stream running alongside the path. The paths are well defined with one or two steep spots but they can be extremely muddy in places therefore walking boots and gaiters are recommended! Allow around 2.5 to 3 hours to complete this spooky and scenic walk where climbing down to the entrance to the Goblin’s Ha is optional. there are toilets at the Lanterne Rouge cafe in Gifford before the w🌿
