About
The first section of our journey along the Clyde Walkway - Lanark to Kirkfieldbank
Starting in the historic town of Lanark, we’ll make our way out through the town centre, passing Lanark Loch before heading across open farmland towards Bonnington Linn, where we join the beautiful Clyde Walkway.
From here, the route becomes wonderfully scenic as we follow woodland trails and the banks of the River Clyde, taking in the dramatic Falls of Clyde along the way. We’ll continue through the historic village of New Lanark, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with opportunities to enjoy the surrounding woodland, river views and spectacular scenery.
A varied and rewarding walk combining open countryside, peaceful woodland, riverside paths, dramatic waterfalls and fascinating local heritage — with something to enjoy around every corner.
Distance: 7.5 - 8 miles Ascent: 300m Terrain: Paths and tracks (mostly unsurfaced) Grade: BRONZE- see grading information at
https://fifeoutandabout.weebly.com/walk-grades.html
for explanation
Estimated walking time: Approx. 4.5 hours including a lunch stop. Allow extra time for bus journey between start and end of walk.
What to bring: WATERPROOFS (ideally breathable) WALKING BOOTS (unlikely that trainers will be suitable as paths could be muddy) SOCKS (should have loop stitch padding. Using liner socks may help reduce blisters) CLOTHING SYSTEM (breathable and wicking. Cotton is not suitable for hillwalking) EXTRA INSULATION LAYER (to be carried in addition to what you are wearing) HAT AND GLOVES FOOD/DRINK (for lunch plus extra for emergency) SMALL FIRST AID KIT RUCKSACK (20 - 25 litres will be sufficient for this low level walk ) WALKING POLES (optional)

for details of the proposed route. Note that this is an end to end walk using the local bus service to transfer between the start and finish points.
Meeting details: Meeting will probably be in Kirkfieldbank from where we can catch a bus into the centre of Lanark to commence the walk. Adequate on-street parking is available in Kirkfieldbank. Meeting details will be confirmed nearer the time.
You are reminded that this is not a led walk. We walk as equals and you are responsible for your own safety and welfare. Please ensure you have read our participation agreement before joining the walk.
