About
In Cadillac Desert: The American West and Its Disappearing Water, Marc Reisner traces the construction of the dams, aqueducts, reservoirs, and irrigation systems that enabled the growth of major cities and vast agricultural regions across the arid western United States, including states such as California, Arizona, Nevada, and Colorado. The book examines this transformation, the political battles surrounding these massive water projects, their environmental costs, and how the infrastructure built to control and redistribute scarce water made the modern American West possible.
This event will be hosted by Nick Leitch, a Principal Mechanical Engineer at Collins Aerospace specializing in aircraft nacelle engineering, with extensive experience in aerospace, rail transportation, manufacturing, and construction. Previously, Nick worked at Kawasaki Rail Car, where his work included the R211 subway cars for New York City Transit, the 7000-series cars for the Washington Metro, and M9 cars for the Long Island Rail Road. Originally from Wyoming, with a passion for nature / conservation, Nick has a favorite hard hat and is even certified to operate a forklift. We’re thrilled to have him lead our discussion!
