About
The story of infrastructure is often told through engineering marvels. In The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America's Shining Women, Kate Moore reminds us that it is also a story about the people whose labor made those achievements possible. As demand for glowing watch dials grew alongside an industrializing nation, the women who produced them unknowingly paid a devastating price. Their fight reminds us that the most important infrastructure may be the social contract that ensures those who build the modern world are not sacrificed in the process.
This event will be hosted by Emma Gutman of The New York Historical, previously of the Tenement Museum, a graduate of New York University, a member of the Phi Alpha Theta National History Honor Society, and recipient of the Max Kade Travel Award for research in Germany and other German-speaking countries. We’re thrilled to have her lead our discussion!
