5 years. 5 turns around the sun since a bunch of us - most unknown to each other - decided to take on a gentle cycle from Hackney to Cambridge. And what a journey this has been since then! Social rides, Eurotrips, C2C, spinning and sauna sessions 💦 and dozens of friends and lovers later, here we are!
Come celebrate and join Queers On Wheels 5th anniversary ride, an open-to-all ride from Islington to the iconic e Spoke Cycles Café in Hertfordshire 🎂
🌟 Vibe: it’s a celebration! We want everyone to ride their way, so we will make sure we have different captains with different paces: social, steady or speedy. After the coffee stop, there is a direct train back to Finsbury Park / St Pancras :) But if you fancy doing the double distance, you will surely find some cycling buddies who would like to take on the challenge ;)
🗺️ Route: we will exit London via Archway and North Finchley, after that, we should follow some quieter country lanes.

📍 Meeting Point: outside Highbury and Islington station
📐 Distance: 49km ↗️ Elevation: 400m 🕘 ridetime 2h15-2h30 (the ride to the train station from the café is 4km ish, about 12-15 minutes)
🕘 Meet from 8:45. Punctuality is required (we want to avoid heavy traffic). Rollout: 09:00 🕝 Estimated Finish Time (post coffee): 12:30 ish
🚃 Train Info: trains depart Welwyn North (20 minute cycle from the café) at 12:16, 12:46, 13:16… 29 minutes to Finsbury Park. Cost: £5 with Network Railcard.
🥤Stops and After Ride-plans: we will ride straight to the café, so the café will be the main coffee & brunch stop
✅ Do bring: a helmet, a multitool, pump, tubes, layers and water.
🏅 Suitability & Experience Level: This ride is open to all (from beginners to advanced) and we will split in different paces. You should feel comfortable cycling 50km and managing some gentle climbs.
🚴♀️ Pace(s): social (under 19km/h), steady (20-25km/h) and speedy (25km/h+).
