Infrastructure is more than roads, bridges, and transit. It also includes the foundational underpinnings of how we make decisions. In Determined: A Science of Life Without Free Will, neuroscientist Robert Sapolsky argues that our choices are the product of biology, genetics, environment, and experience rather than independent free will. Will your decision to attend this book club session be a product of your own free will, or perhaps something else?
This event will be hosted by Ayat Yaseen, a scientist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center with a background in chemistry, structural biology, protein nanotechnology, and DNA repair. Her research has been published in Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, including recent work exploring how human cells protect their DNA during replication. She is also the author of Bench and Balance Sheet, where she writes at the intersection of biotechnology, science, and investing. We’re thrilled to have her lead our discussion!
