About
NB: not a QoW event with captains etc and split no drop: organise yourselves as required
In 2027 the 35th Dunwich Dynamo (for all the Gen Zs who can’t read Roman numbers) takes place the night of Saturday July 17.
The Dunwich Dynamo is always on the July Saturday closest to a July full moon.

The DD is free-spirited, semi-organised, informal and unsponsored. It's a mass long-distance ride through the night from London Fields to Dunwich on the Suffolk Coast. It's not a sportive nor a race. People do it on all manner of machines. I like to think of it as an ambulant festival. At 112 miles / 180km / 1,300m, it's obviously long - about 8h in the saddle. Nevertheless it's accessible to all; there’s no need to do it at any particular speed. People bring music, lights on their bikes, it’s a really fun atmosphere and it’s overall flat"ish".There are lots of stops: late opening pubs, cafes opening at 2am, the odd garden tea party, Sudbury Fire Station charity bbq and more. So you should be able to buy food and drinks (pints anyone?) throughout the journey.
You will need some training, for sure, but it's an incredibly rewarding experience. Weather permitting, it’s also magical, the route is lovely. The night is much shorter than you think near the solstice. After getting properly dark at 11, and then following a never-ending chain of flashing red through the black ahead, you’re surprised by the first hint of light in the eastern sky somewhere in Essex not long after 3am. And the blackbirds are already at full throttle by then.
The ride is Saturday night, and people start to head off from London Fields around 20.00. You’ll arrive in Dunwich at approx. 0800 +/- 1h.
LOGISTICS
Local trains don’t accept bikes on Sunday and Monday, so you have multiple options. See below!
Option A Stay on in the local area, especially after having gone to the effort of cycling all the way to the Suffolk coast. Dunwich is lovely, as are nearby Walberswick and famous Southwold, Thorpeness & Aldeburgh. The Ship at Dunwich pub has 4-bed rooms B&B which can work out a good price between 4. Look direct on their website.
Option B Ride on to Norwich (60km) and book your bike on a train to Cambridge and then connect to Thameslink.
Option C Hire a van and get someone to drive to Darsham (closest train station to Dunwich) and collect our bikes. Take train to Stratford, then meet driver and get your back. It should cost around £10 per person for the van (plus train tickets). Please let us know if you have a friend who could drive or if yourself would be keen on supporting as the driver. We can provide breakfast and lunch. We can sort payment a couple days before the ride (or cancel if weather is shit obviously).
Option D D is for DOUBLE. It’s the Double Dunwich Dynamo. Essentially cycling back to London, clocking 360km (or a bit less until the end of the Lizzie line). Only for the very sadomasochistic 😈
Option E

organise return transport on buses (bikes go in accompanying lorries) on the Sunday. The buses then go to south London where you have to wait for your bike to be delivered and then make your way back home. We believe this option costs around £50 per person. From members' experience it is very time consuming.
