About
Greetings Everyone - Join us on Sunday for an Auckland Global Trekkers welcome to Summer.
🟡 Some words to Inspire you: We have an exciting schedule of hikes and adventures lined up, and what better way to kick off the season than a shared BBQ at Stillwater?
Before firing up the grill, we will immerse ourselves in a stunning 90-minute loop that captures the very best of our coastline and native forests. We will climb rolling hills to take in breathtaking, sweeping views across Karepiro Bay and the glittering Hauraki Gulf, before descending to the historic beachfront at Dacre Cottage. Our return journey winds through lush, shaded native bush filled with pōhutukawa trees and nīkau palms.
Afterwards, we will gather back at the cosy Stillwater Hall to relax, feast, and chat over our shared meal about all the incredible trips ahead.
To make the day completely stress-free, your registration fee covers the hall & glass hire, cost of running the barbeque as well as tables, chairs, plates, cutlery and some tasty treats.
You will however be asked to help set up and pack down at either end of the day.
Duration: About 4 - 5 hours hike including stops. Distance: Approx 15 km. Difficulty: 2.5 - 3.0 on our 1-5 scale for day hikes.

🟡 Preparation is the key to having a good day: Check the weather Do you have the correct clothing and shoes? Do you know where the meeting places are?
What are you bringing for the shared lunch?
🟡 Walk Description & Directions: Walking across the flat grass of Stillwater Reserve past the boating club, follow the gravel path south through the kauri dieback station. Head through the boundary gate, cross the footbridge, and follow the marker poles onto the Stillwater Beach Walkway farm tracks.
Advance up the rolling clay hills, stopping at the high clearing viewpoint to appreciate the panoramic vistas over Karepiro Bay and the Hauraki Gulf. Descend the farm track toward the coast, following the markers past the red barn into the beach clearing at Dacre Cottage.
Remind hikers to stay strictly on the grassed perimeter to avoid disturbing the endangered shorebirds nesting nearby.
To head back, locate the DOC signpost at the bush edge and follow the 'Stillwater via Overland Route' path. This diverts the group onto the elevated coastal bush track, taking a well-defined route over exposed tree roots, clay steps, and boardwalks. Follow the track as it drops back down to the reserve gate, returning to Stillwater Hall for shared lunch.
🟡 Capture the Moment: Share your best photos of the day to have a chance to have it featured on our Instagram & Facebook Accounts.
🟡 Additional Notes:
Safety and togetherness are our priorities. We will make regular stops to ensure the group stays together.
Punctuality is key, and we will depart on time, so please be prompt.
We can't wait to go trekking with you on Sunday - Chris, Jodi, Christopher and the AGT Team.
