A relaxed 90-minute evening loop exploring Devonport’s waterfront, historic landmarks and hidden green spaces, finishing with optional drinks at Signal Hill. Perfect for first-timers and regulars alike.
🟢 The plan:
Join us this Wednesday for a scenic evening walk through Devonport, uncovering some fascinating layers of early Auckland history along the way.
Starting at the historic Devonport Ferry Terminal, we’ll follow the waterfront past grand Victorian-era buildings, historic memorials, old naval sites and places connected with Devonport’s early colonial history.
We’ll then turn inland to explore Mount Cambria, a former quarry transformed into a secluded green oasis, before crossing through the Mount Victoria area and returning to Devonport Village.
We’ll finish at Signal Hill, a modern bar and restaurant housed within Devonport’s oldest surviving homestead, where you’re welcome to stay for a drink and continue the conversation before catching the ferry home.
Duration: ~ 90 minutes including stops (approx. 4–5 km)
Pace/Difficulty: Easy & relaxed, around 1.5–1.75 on our 1–5 day-hike scale. We stop regularly to keep the group together.

17:15 – Meet at Devonport Ferry Terminal
17:30 – Brief intro & start walking
19:00 – Walk finishes
19:00 – 20:00 – Drinks at Signal Hill, 24 Victoria Road (Optional)
20:00 – Planned ferry departure from Devonport
🟢 First-Timers:
New to the group? You’re very welcome!
Cost: $5 donation (cash on the day or bank transfer to 12-3430-0791504-00) to help cover group running costs.
What to bring: Comfortable walking shoes, clothing suitable for the weather, a light jacket/rain layer, water, and your transport card/app for the ferry.
🟢 House Rules & Safety:
Please be punctual as we step off promptly at 17:30.
Take particular care where the route is close to or crosses roads.
Adults only (no children, pets, or non-registered guests). No smoking during the walk.
Participants walk at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety.
