Greetings Everyone - Join us on Sunday to Moirs Hill along the Te Araroa Walkway. We look to climb the hill and a little bit of exploring other tracks.
🟡 Some words to Inspire you:
Walking from Matthew Road up to Moirs Hill is a rewarding out-and-back adventure. The track rises steadily through farmland edges before plunging into native bush, where the air is filled with birdsong and the scent of damp earth. The climb is gradual but satisfying, with glimpses of ridgelines and valleys opening up as you gain height.
At the summit, Moirs Hill offers a sense of remoteness and quiet, a place to pause and take in the wide sweep of Northland’s landscape.
After enjoying the views, the return journey retraces the same path, giving a fresh perspective on the terrain as you descend. Back at Matthew Road, boots are dusted off and the group drives into Warkworth.
The destination is the Bridge House Lodge Bar & Restaurant, a fine old establishment with character in every corner. Here, the day’s effort is celebrated with a cold drink, hearty food, and the warmth of shared stories—a fitting end to a classic Northland walk.

🟡 Walk Description & Directions:
Follow Matthew Road for 1 km. Running off the end of Matthew Road is a forestry road to bring you up to the summit of Moirs Hill. As the forestry track runs onto Moirs Hill Road, continue straight ahead past DOC’s Waihunga Track and the radio transmission tower shortly after. Take care along Moirs Hill Road as forestry trucks may be working and the winding road limits visibility. Do not walk this road with headphones on.
A gate and Private Property sign block vehicle access to the forestry road at the end of Matthew Road. Te Araroa walkers are welcome to squeeze around the gatepost on the left end of the gate and continue up the hill, following the forestry road.
We then return the same way.
🟡 Additional Notes:
Safety and togetherness are our priorities. We will make stops at all track junctions to ensure the group stays together.
Punctuality is key, and we will depart on time, so please be prompt.
We can't wait to go trekking with you on Sunday - Jodi, Chris and the Team.
