About the Event and Club
BLK Hiking Club events are intended for Black people only unless otherwise stated due to the limited options that exist for Black people to engage in the outdoors where we can easily see and engage with others who look like us and share our experiences.
While we appreciate the work of allies, they are encouraged to join one of the many other hiking groups in the Triangle.
🌿🚣 Robertson Millpond Preserve Kayak Adventure 🚣🌿
Join us for a unique paddling adventure through one of Wake County's hidden gems—Robertson Millpond Preserve in Wendell, NC!
📅 Date: August 8, 2026 🕗 Meet: 8:00 AM 🛶 Launch: 9:00 AM
Robertson Millpond Preserve features a 1.15-mile marked paddle trail winding through a rare blackwater cypress swamp. The trail is guided by buoy markers and takes paddlers through a beautiful forest of towering bald cypress trees, calm waters, and abundant wildlife habitat.
One of the best things about this paddle is the shade. Much of the route is covered by a dense tree canopy, making it an excellent choice for a midsummer adventure when temperatures are at their highest.
⚠️ Experience Requirement
This is not a beginner paddle. Participants should be comfortable controlling their kayak and navigating around obstacles in narrow channels.
To attend, paddlers should: • Understand basic paddling maneuvers and kayak control • Be able to paddle for several hours at a relaxed pace • Have attended at least one previous kayaking event or possess equivalent paddling experience
🎒 What to Bring • Plenty of water • Snacks • Insect repellent • Sunscreen • Hat • Quick-dry/lightweight clothing • Water shoes • Dry bag (optional)
There are 14 spots available. Age minimum is 10 for kayaks, anyone younger than 10 must be in a tandem kayak with an adult. Age minimum overall is 5 years old.
Please come prepared! There are no restroom facilities or drinking water at the preserve.
