About
Join us as we take Phoenix Run Club overseas for the first time and experience Shanghai during one of the most talked-about and high-profile running moments of the year: the 30th anniversary of Shanghai Marathon.
The goal isn’t just to run a race. It’s to experience Shanghai while the entire city transforms into a massive running festival filled with runners, brands, events, communities, and people flying in from all over the world.
So around this incredible moment for the city and its running culture, we want to organize a special PRC trip centered around community, connection, exploration, and experiencing one of the most magnetic cities in the world at its peak.
Beyond marathon weekend itself, we’ll also organize our own runs throughout Shanghai with local running communities and runners from other countries.
THE RACE Race options:
Full marathon (Dec 6)
Lottery-based. Registration closes May 28, 9pm Phoenix time.
5K / mini race (expected Dec 5)
Registration expected to open in July.
No half marathon or 10K options around the same time.
We highly encourage EVERYONE who even remotely thinks this sounds interesting to just go register for the full marathon lottery even if you’re not sure about anything yet, since the lottery entry is completely FREE until you get selected and decide to officially accept and pay for the spot later.
Register NOW to enter the full marathon lottery by May 28, 9pm Phoenix time

Lottery results come out June 30
And of course, you absolutely do NOT need to win the lottery or even run a race to be part of this trip since our vision is way beyond that :)
OTHER ACTIVITIES Throughout the trip, we’ll most likely have (depends on how long you want to stay):
Phoenix Run Club organized runs throughout Shanghai
Community runs with local and international running groups
Race weekend events and meetups
Food spots and local experiences
Side trips near Shanghai (Zhujiajiao, Suzhou, Hangzhou, etc.)
Spontaneous adventures
Limited special Phoenix Run Club Shanghai merch ;)
And a lot more to come
We’ll slowly start planning race day logistics / activities, group activities, side trips, restaurants, experiences, etc. once we get a better sense of overall interest and group size.
LOGISTICS We know it’s basically impossible for everyone to follow the exact same itinerary, so you’re free to choose your own timing and overall trip length as long as it falls roughly within Nov 26 – Dec 17. We’ll also create a collaborative platform where you can coordinate possible flights, timing overlaps, accommodations, race plans, etc.
We’ll keep updating this event as things evolve, but for now -
GO REGISTER FOR THE MARATHON :)
