Greetings Everyone - Join us on Sunday as we travel out on the Whangaparoa Peninsula to Shakespear Regional Park.

Escape the city for a perfect 3-hour coastal escape at Shakespear Regional Park. This diverse loop walk takes you through a bird-filled native forest sanctuary, up to panoramic 360-degree clifftop views, and along a historic Army Bay coastal extension.
Enjoy a beachside lunch and optional swim on the safe, golden sands of Te Haruhi Bay before completing the serene wetland loop back.
Top off your perfect Sunday by stopping on the drive home for a relaxed, sun-soaked craft beer in Wade Bar & Bistro garden bar.
Duration: About 3.0 - 3.5 hours hike including stops.
Distance: Approx 5-7 km.
Difficulty: 2.25 - 2.5 on our 1-5 scale for day hikes.
Low Tide: 5pm
Cost for Car Poolers: $15 - Please pay the driver your cash contribution to car pooling at Freemans Bay, otherwise you may not be able to come.
Toilets will be available at the start.

🟡 Walk Description & Directions:
Starting from the Waterfall Gully car park follow the yellow markers for the Heritage Trail entering the predator-proof fence follow the track past the waterfall as it begins a gentle, steady climb before the bush opens into rolling green farmland, you will pass a World War II pillbox gun emplacement.
Merge onto the blue-marked Lookout Track to reach the highest point in the park stopping at the large wooden picture frame for a spectacular 360-degree view of the Hauraki Gulf and downtown Auckland.
From the lookout, follow the red markers of the Tiritiri Track heading east walking along the clifftops through farm paddocks shared with grazing sheep, you will pass the historic WWII ship degaussing station before descending the stairs directly to the edge of Te Haruhi Bay.
Upon hitting the beach, turn left (east) and follow the flat, gravel coastal track that wraps around the headland toward Army Bay past historical coastal defence structures before looping back to the main beach.
Sit at one of the grassy picnic areas under the shade of the mature trees or head straight onto the sand. The bay offers public toilet facilities, fresh drinking water, and calm waters if you want a refreshing midday swim.
After lunch, walk past the campground toilets and follow the white markers of the Ōkoromai Track heading north. This flat, final leg takes you through a serene wetland area before looping right back to your vehicle at Waterfall Gully.
