🧗 OUTDOOR CLIMBING TASTER EVENT- PEAK DISTRICT
Want to try outdoor climbing? Would you like to do it as part of a plus size group?
This outdoor climbing event is being run by Cat from Latitude 534 to give you an opportunity to try climbing outdoors in a safe and supportive environment.
Climbing is a really fun activity to try, and you will be securely attached to a rope while you climb. We won’t ask you to do anything that you aren’t comfortable with, but there will be an opportunity to have a go, try it out, and see how you like it. There will be no pressure to get "to the top", just a chance to become familiar with whats involved in climbing, especially the harnesses.
You don't need to have climbed before, but the event is also suitable for those who have climbed indoors (maybe at one of our events!) and want to give outdoor climbing a go.
Please be aware climbing does have some standing around, waiting to have a turn, so please be prepared and bring an extra layer for the cold and some good conversation!
Cat is a qualified climbing instructor who has run lots of walking events for EBO in the past, and she will be joined by a second qualified instructor for this session.
About Cat - "I am a Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor based in Llanberis, North Wales, and I run courses in all areas of the outdoors, such as teaching people how to rock climbing or how to use a map and compass. I am passionate about introducing people to hill walking and rock climbing, especially people who think or have been told ‘it’s not for them’. I run a company called Latitude 534, and my work is all about high-quality instruction, providing supportive and inclusive access to the outdoors. The hills and mountains are for everyone, both for fun, exciting adventures, and also some time to sit, enjoy and find some space to breathe."

). •
Who is this for? This event is for plus-size people of all genders. No strict size limits, but if you’re under a size 18/XL, please consider whether this space is the right fit.
•
Toilets: We will advise you of the nearest public toilet once the venue has been decided.
•
Footwear – please bring tight-fitting trainers that have a thin sole as it makes it much easier if you can feel the rock as you climb! For example, Converse are great.
•
Appropriate clothing for the day (Waterproofs, warm layers, hat, gloves etc). It can get pretty cold standing around at the bottom, waiting to climb
•
A small bag to carry extra warm layers, water etc
We will provide a harness and helmet for you on the day. The harness we will be using fits a waist up to 150cm/59" and leg up to 95cm/37" - you do not need to be able to get the harness over your hips as it completely undoes, so can be fastened around your waist rather than lifting over your hips.
We have a number of bursary places available for this event. There is no strict criteria for these places - they are available for anyone for whom the cost is prohibitive and you can book a bursary place via the booking link below. If there is no option showing for Bursary Tickets, this is because there are no more bursary places available.
There are also Pay It Forward tickets available. By selecting one of these tickets you will support the provision of a bursary ticket for a future event.
Thanks to Sport England for the funding to help us run this event at a subsidised rate!
If you are no longer able to attend, please cancel your place so that someone on the waiting list is able to attend. If you cancel at least three weeks in advance and we are able to fill your space you will receive a refund for your ticket. Cancellations after 12th June will not be refunded.
We can go ahead with a bit of drizzle, but will not be able to go ahead with the event if the rain is heavy. We will make the call a week before the event and let you know if it will have to be postponed, in which case you can keep your ticket for the new date or get a refund.
