The 26 x 1 Relay is an invitational race put on by Somerville Road Runners - PRC has participated in this event for the last several years and we’re bringing it back for another year of miles and fun!!!
This is a relay marathon that takes place on the track - each runner completes one mile (four laps) of the track and then passes the baton on to the next runner. While this is a race, and some of the other teams take it very seriously, we as a team are there to have FUN and support each other in movement.
If you are interested in joining the team, we’d love to have you!! Please fill out this Google form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeCck2j4qcKwfpgaJb-ozLXFXRlOgd4zew7Q_2K_aak0RgXZg/viewform?usp=publish-editor
You will be responsible for paying your portion of the race entry ($20) via Venmo (or another digital payment app). If cost is a barrier, don’t worry! There’s a section on the Google form to note that, and we’ll make sure your cost is covered.
Once you’re confirmed, your name will be added to the team roster: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Nas58nZnSUnGYA5Ud6lduhixximZw18fcqqoQi0XEdg/edit?usp=drivesdk
We will keep a waitlist of additional team members, since we know life happens and we’ve always needed backups, so fill out the form (or reach out to Syd Howland via Heylo message) if you’re interested, even if the team slots look full!
And, as always, we welcome ALL FACES, ALL PACES.
MORE DETAILED RACE INFO BELOW ⬇️
START TIME: 8:30 am on Saturday, June 6 at Hormel Track in Medford.
CONTACT: Syd Howland for joining the team & questions leading up to race day
ARRIVING: Make sure you allow enough time to find parking, get to our tent, warm up, get your bearings, etc. To be on the safe side, I would suggest getting there at least 1 hour before your estimated start time (take the number of runners before you and multiply that by 5 minutes, to get an estimate of your start time). It would be nice to have everyone around to cheer each other on, if your schedule allows it! The organizers are encouraging people to carpool as much as possible- there is a lot next to the stadium, but if that fills up, suggested parking is either the municipal parking lot in Medford Square (1 mile away) or the Wellington Station MBTA parking lot (2 miles away).
THE RELAY: There are 30 teams running, so it will be chaos (the fun kind). I will post the running order to the album on this event in the week leading up to the race. When you see the runner before you start their leg, you’ll need to head to the start area on the track. When they finish their 4th lap, you’ll take the baton from them and start your own leg. For people who are feeling anxious: do not copy some of the other teams who might do fast/intense handoffs. We are here for fun, so if you want to do a walking handoff in one of the outer lanes, that’s totally fine- just plan that with the runner before you, and wave your arms so they see you when they’re finishing. (We can go over this in person on the day of the event too!)
SWAPS: If for whatever reason you need to swap places with another runner, you can do so by letting the organizers know at the check-in table before the start of your leg. I can help you with this. Either way, please do give Syd a heads up so we know who to chase down for their leg 😅 If you get injured before the relay and need to bow out, let me know.

I think that covers the main points- let me (Syd) know if you have any questions. Let’s have some fun!
