About
Join us for an incredible 2.75 hour yacht cruise hosted by AIANY (the New York chapter of the American Institute of Architects). We will circumnavigate Manhattan by yacht with continuous live narration from practicing architects.
This tour covers the full perimeter of the island via the Hudson, Harlem, and East Rivers. The discussion spans architecture, engineering, urban planning, land use, waterfront design, public works, real estate finance, preservation, environmental constraints, and the political decisions behind major projects
In the process we will also confront the legacy of the controversial planner Robert Moses, whose highways, bridges, and urban renewal projects reshaped the waterfront and displaced entire communities. His imprint is visible from nearly every stretch of the island’s edge.
Tickets are normally $98 but are discounted to $73.50 for the month of March with the coupon code MARCHITECTUREMADNESS. Tickets must be purchased directly from the organizers at
https://www.aiany.org/architecture/tours/boat-tours/
Please select the March 29, 2026 Around Manhattan Architecture Tour at 1:25pm and choose the communal seating option when registering. When purchasing your ticket, please enter “Infrastructure Explorers Book Club” in the seating assignment field so that we are seated together.
Prior to RSVPing to this event, you must purchase your ticket directly from the cruise organizers.
Lunch to follow after, restaurant info forthcoming.
Please be on time and account for weekend subway delays, we don't want you to miss the boat. Everyone is responsible for their own costs and participates at their own risk.
Note: Field trips are an extension of the books we read and our discussion sessions. If this is your very first time joining us on a field trip, you must already be a regular at our book discussions or have otherwise received a waiver.
