About
Older use the W3W for exact location. Welcome to “The New Forest”! The route takes in this Bronze Age area of special scientific interest. We start from one of the roadside entry points into the St. Catherine’s Hill Inclosure taking in St Catherine’s Hill viewpoint, Blackwater Hill and Blackwater Firs. The loops entwine through the woods around what once was a site for Bronze Age burial, a Roman lookout, and training grounds for WWI and II.
This route is a mix of wide forest trails and mostly technical stoney and root pathways. It should be mostly stable underfoot but may have pockets of wet mud. Social, chatty run with plenty of stops if needed. Well behaved dogs; buggies; kids on bikes all welcome.
Difficulty: The route largely allows for fast and carefree running. The majority of the trails are flat and fast. There will be a good amount of elevation over the route, with a couple of short and sharp inclines.
Footwear: It is wet, it may be muddy, you will get wet feet! I suggest trail shoes. It is just that time of year…
Clothing: Mainly on paths so shorts sleeves and short leggings/shorts would be fine.
New Forest Code: Please familiarise yourself with the New Forest Code and adhere to it at all times so that we can continue to enjoy these runs together:
