About
The Southwest Virginia Historical Museum will be the first stop on our Southwest weekend! A ranger will join us to teach more about the area and history. We will hike the Greenbelt Walking Trail along the Powell River. We will meet at the museum’s front gate before starting this easy, moderate accessible hike around the greenbelt. This hike is a perfect opportunity to enjoy nature and enjoy the refreshing spring air while hiking with other women who enjoy the outdoors.

**Mileage:**2.8
Difficulty & Description: Easy
Expected Pace: Slow and relaxed
While this is the expected pace, all GWHVA hikes are at a no-drop pace, meaning we’ll move at a speed that’s comfortable for the whole group and no one will be left behind. It’s natural for the group to spread out at times, especially on steep inclines or challenging sections of the trail—but don’t worry, we’ll always regroup along the way.
Parking Instructions: Park at the museum parking area . State Park parking of $7 applies
Fees: The regular park fee of $5 is required to enter the museum.
Bathrooms: on-site at the museum
Who is this event for?: Women+
Weather contingency plan: Rain or shine! If thunderstorms are in the forecast we will cut the event short.
Preparedness and what to bring: Be sure to bring your own TEN ESSENTIALS: Navigation, Sun Protection, Insulation (Extra clothes), Illumination, First-Aid, Fire Starter, Repair Kit & Tools, Food, Water, and Emergency Shelter.
We want this event to be welcoming, accessible, and inclusive for everyone. Please reach out with any considerations (e.g., disability, wellness, cultural, etc.) you want us to know about in advance of the event.
During the registration process, please consider donating to GWHVA. What will your donation do? It will fund the operations of GWHVA, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, which gives us access to educational and wellness events to women+ of Virginia for free or low cost.
