Mileage: 1 mile
Difficulty & Description: For our first Adopt-A-Tail at Fairy Stone we will mainly focus on assessing the trail. Other tasks will include nailing trail blazes to trees along the trail and cleaning interpretive signage. We could also trim back small vegetation with loppers.
We can do a longer hike afterwards if there is any interest.
Expected Pace: relaxed for trail maintenance
While this is the expected pace, all GWHVA hikes are at a no-drop pace, meaning we’ll move at a speed that’s comfortable for the whole group and no one will be left behind. It’s natural for the group to spread out at times, especially on steep inclines or challenging sections of the trail—but don’t worry, we’ll always regroup along the way.
Parking Instructions: park at the Stuart’s knob trail parking
Fees: $7 or free with state park pass
Bathrooms: none at trailhead but there are bathrooms at the gift shop a short drive to the main park entrance
Who is this event for?: women+
Weather contingency plan: if bad weather we will reschedule for April
Preparedness and what to bring: water, snacks, sunscreen, bug spray, good closed toe shoes for hiking, equipment for trail work will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own gloves, sheers/loppers,
We want this event to be welcoming, accessible, and inclusive for everyone. Please reach out with any considerations (e.g., disability, wellness, cultural, etc.) you want us to know about in advance of the event.
During the registration process, please consider donating to GWHVA. What will your donation do? It will fund the operations of GWHVA, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, which gives us access to educational and wellness events to women+ of Virginia for free or low cost.
