A Saturday adventure around North London's hills, taking in the Parkland Walk, Queen's Wood, Alexandra Palace, Highgate Woods, and much of Hampstead Heath including both extensions (and the pergola and zoo!)
It's obviously not going to be as sunny as the photo. It will be very muddy around the Heath (very muddy), a bit in Queen's Wood, but the Parkland Walk is fairly gravelly. There's a tiny amount of tarmac in the green spaces, and then we do have a pavement transition between Highgate and Heath.
Time: 10am, so you can have a nice Val's Day breakfast 😆
Distance: 21.4km / 13.3 miles ish
Elevation: 324m ascent / 291m descent
Pace: 7.00-8.00km/h. Chatty, hilly, photos, wees.
Meet: Outside the Pret on Finsbury Park Station concourse
Finish: Hampstead Heath overground station
Trail shoes are most definitely preferable. If you're new to trails, but are happy enough with the distance from road, come along in road shoes and we'll help you take it easy on the slippy sections (they will be unavoidable, I promise you).
Water and snacks please, it is a long way.
We can stop at Queen's Wood café for a wee, or there's bushes, and Hampstead Heath have shops at the finish.
If you want to come along but are unsure of the distance, there are plenty of "jumping off" points, just dependent on where you need to get to really. Highgate is probably the most straightforward tube-wise. If you're unsure on the area, please do send a message.
