About
Greetings Everyone - Join us on Sunday to walk the recently opened Zion Hill and Loop Track on the West Coast of Auckland.
🟡 Some words to inspire you The walk is described as "full immersion into one of the west coast’s most dramatic landscapes". First there is a steady climb up Zion Hill, reaching 263m, followed by a descent to the beautiful Pararaha valley.
We follow the stream inland to the Pararaha Valley campsite / shelter for lunch, where castle-like rock cliffs tower above and palm-covered slopes lead down to the stream gurgling below.
After lunch we return down the valley, this time all the way to the coast, which we follow back to the Tunnel Point campsite and then to Karekare beach carpark.
We'll stop at the The Good Home on Lincoln Rd for a post-hike gathering (optional).
Duration: About 5.5 - 6 hours hike including stops. Distance: Approx. 11.5km. Difficulty: 2.5 on our 1-5 scale for day hikes. Elevation: Approx. 330 meters cumulative (Rangitoto is 275 meters) There is also soft sand walking much of the return leg.
Cost for Car Poolers: $10 - Please pay the driver cash at Freemans Bay, otherwise you may not be able to come.
