About
Note: I am not hosting this event as a normal meetup event; this event page can be used as a group chat for those that choose to attend and attempt to find each other, but I cannot guarantee you will find others in the group. I cannot promise I will even post or reply to comments during the event, but I will be there somewhere in the neighborhood!
It's that time of year again for the biggest party in St. Louis... Soulard Mardi Gras!!! The streets of Soulard will be packed, the drinks will be flowing, and the beads will be flying in the air! Since it is such a hectic day with so much happening and people following their own schedules, I am simply posting this event for people to use as a group chat.
For those that have never attended, and for those who need some refreshers, here is a list of information in no particular order:
DRESS WARM! This is an outdoor event in the streets of Soulard in the winter. You will probably not have any access to the inside of any of the establishments in the neighborhood unless you pay for their entries.
There are checkpoints at almost all streets entering into northern Soulard and they are enforcing NO bottles, NO cans, NO backpacks, and NO coolers brought into area. Once on the streets, you can purchase and walk around with drinks in plastic cups.
You don't need to pay a cover at a bar to enjoy the day! There are drink and food vendors scattered everywhere on the streets in the neighborhood.
Almost all tents, bars, and restaurants in Soulard will have expensive covers to enter inside. Some are all-inclusive, thus start at $80+ and require tickets bought ahead of time, but others are only $10-20 and offer cash bars and food for purchase.
Learn where porta potties are located and be ready to wait in line to use them.
The parade starts at about 11 AM from Busch Stadium, and reaches the Soulard Market area at about 11:45.
Street vendors stop serving between 5:30-6:00 PM. Many bars usually close by 8 PM. This is a day drinking event!
Please don't drive if you plan on drinking, and even if you don't plan on drinking, parking is rough. All streets in Soulard are closed to either all traffic, or to only residents with permits. In the past there have been shuttles from certain parking lots, but I am not familiar with those operations.
Cell service has traditionally been spotty due to the crowds, but they have gotten better with adding temporary towers. Expect to still not have great cell service.

Enjoy the day!
