About
SPECIAL JUGGLING NIGHT for Reed College's Paideia. Paideia is a weeklong festival of workshops and classes led by students, faculty, and staff at the end of winter break. In the spirit of Paideia, we have planned an evening of "weird, wild, and wonderful" juggling and related skills such as cracking a bullwhip, throwing a knot into rope, kendama, hoop tricks, walking on a rolling globe, finger propellers, and more. And, of course, the usual juggling activities are welcome, too. No experience necessary. You can do this!
DO YOU HAVE A WEIRD, WILD, OR WONDERFUL TRICK TO SHARE? We are looking to provide a wide range of activities throughout the evening to amuse and engage everyone. Please drop me (Stuart Celarier) a note if you have a skill you can teach or activity you can lead -- 15 to 30 minutes is ideal -- to add to the fun.
ACCESS: From the west parking lot, take the sidewalk between the Sports Center and Performing Arts Building, turn left at the bottom of the first stairs, and turn left again to enter the gym doors. Please don't use other doors. Campus map:
https://www.reed.edu/map/
MASKS: Face masks are appreciated but not required. Disposable surgical masks are available. Thank you.
FOOTWEAR: Clean footwear is required. You may wear outdoor shoes however they must be clean and non-marking. Please double check them to make sure there is no gravel in the treads. Indoor shoes, socks, and bare feet are also welcome.
NO EXPOSED METAL PARTS: juggling clubs must not have exposed screws (even recessed screws). Felt pads on screws are not enough to prevent floor damage. Please replace club knobs that have exposed screws with Rob's Knobs, available in the gym for free ($1 suggested donation), or borrow clubs from another friendly juggler. Unicycling is allowed in the upper lounge.
NO FOOD OR DRINK in the gym. Water bottles with lids are okay.
HELP TEACH REED STUDENTS. Portland Jugglers are allowed to use the gym because WE ARE ALL TEACHERS for the Reed students. Whether you are a beginner or a pro, we all have something to offer to help enrich the students' experience. Do you have a skill or trick you want to teach? Please let me know!
