Our China Series seek to explore China, a vast land of dramatic contrasts, where 5,000 years of imperial history meet futuristic, high-tech metropolises.
For 2026 we will explore the Capitals and more. The general plan: 25 Aug to 30 Aug: Beijing: The historic capital, home to the Forbidden City, Tiannamen Square and easy access to multiple sections of the Great Wall of China and more. 31 Aug to 3 Sep: Datong: A city steeped in history and mystery located at the crossroads of steppe and central Chinese civilizations. Capital to 3 Dynasties, Yunggang Grottoes and Hanging Temple and more. 4 Sep and 5 Sep: Pinyao: Ming/Qing city, City wall and more. 6 Sep to 9 Sep: Xi’an: An ancient former capital famous for the thousands of life-sized Terracotta Warriors and the vibrant food stalls of the Muslim Quarter and more 10 to 12 Sep: Chongqing: A metropolis with diverse terrain. 13 to 15 Sep: Enshi City - Conclude trip here ie train to Wuhan or Shanghai or fly out from Enshi City.
Option to add: 16 Sep to 21 Sep Still in planning stage: Luoyang: One of China's greatest ancient capitals, the eastern gateway of the Silk Road, and the place where Buddhism first took root in the Middle Kingdom, Chinese civilization originated here, an ancient China’s capital during multiple dynasties, Shaolin Temple and more. 21 Sep Train to Beijing and trip concludes.
Hikes: Beijing: Greatwall and possible one other Datong: Heng Mountain if we have time Xian: Hua Mountain if we have time Luoyang: Song Mountain if we have time
We will be travelling between these cities by trains. There will be free periods for you to explore the cities at your leisure.
Numbers of Attendees: No more than 8.
Costs are based on a twin share basis for accommodation and includes train rides between cities. Some accommodation will have breakfast included.
Anything else: Local Transport (Public and Private), Guided tours, Hikes, permits and entry fees, food and drinks are extras at the moment. These will be advised when known.
🟡 PLEASE: No smoking, animals, children or guests.
🟡 Health and Safety Information: All Auckland Global Trekkers organisers work on a strictly voluntary basis and hold NO responsibility or liability for any injury, or loss suffered during the events organised. Each person who participates accepts responsibility for making their own determinations and for their own safety, conduct and well being; recognising that there are hazards in attending group and outdoor activities and agrees to participate solely at their own risk.
You must arrange your own travel insurance that is adequate for yourself.
🟡 Priority - As we would be travelling together for some time, regulars or attendees who have been on overnight or overseas trips will be given preference for attending.
🟡 Payment: A deposit for $400 will be required by 28th February. $720 per month, last payment to be made in July 2026. Bank Account is: 12-3430-0791504- 53
🟡 Refunds: Refunds will not be issued if you change your mind or if circumstances beyond our control prevent us from travelling. For the former, feel free to use the "Comments" section to sell your ticket to someone else.
