This is a route taking in Parkland Walk up to Highgate, loop around Queen’s Wood finishing back at Highgate Station (5.75km) - or extend 3.75km back down Parkland Walk to Finsbury Park (9.5km).
This is a delightfully exciting run for anyone new to dark trail running, or who's never experienced the dark woods before. The Parkland offers a nice straight route with gravelled tracks so ou can get used to the feeling of running in the dark, while Queen's Wood is the most glorious punchy little area will winding trails and hills that truly take you out of the city.
There's a gradual incline up to Highgate and then some up-downs in Queen's that can be lung-busting, then a gradual decline all the way back to Finsbury. We support hill-walking though as required.
Distance: either 5.75km or 9.5km
Elevation: it's something like 80m total, less if it's the shorter route
Gear: Trail shoes would be recommended just because Parkland has gravel tracks and woods have forest paths, so trail shoes can have more grip/cushioning. But you do you. TORCH REQUIRED. Something reflective also useful.
Meet: Outside the Pret on Finsbury Park station concourse (not the City North Place exit)
Pace: Usually 7:00-7:30mins/km, possibly slower depending on the group's experience or energy levels on the day with hills
