The pace of this walk is very gentle and inclusive. No one will be left behind.
Join us for a winter walk around Alnwick, the River Aln and Alnwick Castle.
The walk starts at the Bondgate Tower (sometimes called the Hotspur Tower) and we will stroll up Bondgate Within stopping to look at some interesting historical pubs, statues and some haunted beer bottles!
We will then turn down to the Lion Bridge, which crosses the River Aln. We walk up a gentle slope to the top of a very large meadow which gives great views out to the Cheviot Hills and Alnwick Castle.
We turn down a gentle slope to a slightly muddy path along the river where we get great views of the castle, with all the Harry Potter vibes! We return back up Lion Bridge and back into the town.
Once the walk is finished, there is lots to do and see in Alnwick. There are lots of cafés and shops, and it’s not far from the coast should you wish to continue walking.
The walk is 4km/2.5 miles and is a mixture of pavements and grassy paths. Some points of the walk are a little bit muddy so wellies or sturdy shoes, are a great idea. The walk is mainly flat with some very gentle slopes.
