About
Join Sussex Trail Runners for a beautiful and varied 19.5 km (12 miles) trail run starting and finishing at Balcombe Train Station. With 480 meters (1,500 feet) of elevation gain, this loop takes you through some of Mid Sussex’s finest countryside—woodland trails, open farmland, lakeside paths, and quiet hill climbs.
We’ll head south from Balcombe to join the Sussex Ouse Valley Way, winding through Rivers Wood before looping past the serene waters of Ardingly Reservoir. After a gentle climb into Ardingly village, the trail continues through peaceful countryside towards the edge of Wakehurst Place, skirting the ancient woodland of Tilgate Wood.
Expect a mix of muddy tracks, tree-lined trails, and panoramic views, with plenty of ups and downs to keep it interesting. A perfect route for those looking to explore quiet, lesser-known trails just a train ride away.
