About
School’s out today so we’re taking a field trip! Approx 1.5 hrs from RVA is Westmoreland State Park on the Northern Neck of Virginia. We’ll be hiking the Big Meadow Trail, which is an easy 0.6 mile hike down to Fossil Beach along the Potomac River. Great views of the cliffs, and you might find sharks teeth on the beach!
📝 Notes:
Depending on the tides, there may be more or less beach exposed when we get there.
The hike back from the beach is more moderate in exertion level as it will take you uphill.
This rooty hike is best for carrier-riders or more confident walkers
Picnic tables are available near the parking lot for a place to eat lunch, or you can plan to venture a few mins into Montross to grab a sandwich and a treat at Art of Coffee.
If you want to avoid the state park admission fee ($7), reserve a Nature Backpack at your local library for a free parking pass!
