We’re headed to the colossal Amazon Fulfillment Center in Edison, New Jersey. On a typical day, hundreds of thousands of packages flow out its doors, and on Prime Day that number swells toward half a million. It is a robotic and human wonder that defies explanation and imagination.
Love Amazon or hate them, fan of Jeff Bezos or not, this tour is for you: either to marvel at what Amazon does, or to know your enemy. In the words of Michael Corleone, “Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer.”
Because tours are only offered on weekdays we will go on Friday, November 9 in the afternoon in the hopes that time is easier for folks to take off. Tickets are not yet released, but RSVP now and we will let you know as soon as they drop. They go fast, so we will need to act quickly. (Tours are free, so if you are not an Amazon fan, think of it as them spending money to chauffeur you around instead of expanding their empire.)
This field trip is limited to 10 people, so please RSVP now and be mindful of others by only signing up if you are certain you can make it.
We will meet at 12:50 pm in the NJ Transit waiting area at old Penn Station (not Moynihan, not Amtrak) and catch the 1:05 pm NJ Transit Northeast Corridor train to Metuchen. From there we will rideshare to the Amazon Fulfillment Center, arriving by 2:15 pm for our 2:30 tour. The visit lasts about an hour and a half, involves approximately a mile of walking and at least one flight of stairs, and requires government-issued ID.
Afterwards, we will rideshare back to Metuchen and enjoy delicious Afghan food together before catching the 6:44 pm train back to NYC. Here is the restaurant link https://maps.app.goo.gl/L3t3U7deccegjZ7YA
Tickets, once released, will be available at https://events.amazontours.com/na/onsite/LGA9
