Welcome to The New Forest! This is a wet and muddy, but flat, 5-ish mile loop. We will start running through East Boldre; round the tranquil waters of Hatchet Pond; then we will run round the historical Beaulieu airfield; finishing by running across the heath back to the pub. The route is mainly well trodden paths and gravel track; you will get wet feet as we have to ford one-two small streams (unless you're really good at jumping), and as it is winter the Forest is very wet and muddy. All paces welcome with plenty of opportunity to stop and take photos if you wish. Well behaved dogs welcome. Head and/or chest torches are essential as there is only natural light on most of the route (and it is pitch black!).
We will meet at the pub before setting off. If people would like to have a drink and/or food after please let me know and I will make sure we book a table and pre-order before we go.
Difficulty:
The route will be predominantly on well-kept and well-trodden trails. There may be some technical features but these will be simple to negotiate.
Footwear:
It is wet, it is muddy, you will get wet feet! I suggest trail shoes. I would bring dry shoes, socks and trousers if you are staying at the pub after, although they do have a lovely log fire to dry you off with as well!
Clothing:
Head and/or chest torches are essential. Mainly on paths so shorts sleeves and short leggings/shorts would be fine. However, due to the free roaming wildlife in the area we do have a lot of ticks so please do check once home.
New Forest Code:
Please familiarise yourself with the New Forest Code and adhere to it at all times so that we can continue to enjoy these runs together: https://www.newforestnpa.gov.uk/visiting/help-care-for-the-forest/new-forest-code/
